Too Much of a Thing

oil, collage, pencil, crayon, collage, paper on canvas
60 x 54 " 1999- finished in 2016

Combining many elements, commentary on Y2K, the historic ‘08 Obama Election, the contemporary art markets , auctions, and ranting rhetoric, this piece reveals a complexity based in a sort of literal cubism adding mystery to what appears to be surface writing. It’s both a reaction to graffiti and reflection on the history of writing in Art. The arrangement of the words are integrated into the painting for color, shape and structure used as the building blocks for composition similar to a violin in cubism or Hans Hoffman blob of color. Striving to mix these idealisms together and create a language of originality and identity harboring a beatnik edge to the entire story.
